Life isn’t very fulfilling if it’s all about ‘me’. Unless you’re a Roman Emperor. So we’ve started the Random Acts of Kindness page on STO.COM so you can help us to help others. It’s simple: we’ve got lots and lots of time aboard and onshore. You spend your workdays with us. We don’t get a paycheck. You do. And a little money goes a long ways in a poor country.
The PiggyBank button on the bottom of our website is linked to a Paypal account. If you regularly read our blog, please consider donating any amount you’d feel comfortable. And if you prefer, please let us know how you’d like us to spend the money. Whether it’s buying soccer balls for local kids or neutering a dog, we can oblige. And if you like we’ll document the moment of the random act and send you a video or picture of the recipient.
So far we’ve received over $500 and spent it on items like:
Donations to animal shelters for spaying and neutering
Ice cream cones for 100 kids at Kids Day in La Cruz
Soccer balls…side note: there were two little boys in Evaristo on the Baja who were patiently playing near their dad’s restaurant…with a piece of old washed up styrofoam and a stick. We went back to the boat and brought then a brand new soccer ball, a bag of Crayons, and some paper to draw on. They were unimaginably happy)
Sea Turtle Habitat
School Supplies
A round of beer for the Marina Staff in La Cruz
Popcorn and candy for a family at the movies (the little girl came and asked us how much our popcorn cost then got shined by her dad who said they couldn’t afford it)
Carnival game tickets for kids who couldn’t afford them
(there are more I’m just kind of tired right now and not thinking clearly)
And Leann: We’ve still got your donation. We had an old “can lady” in mind to donate it to but she didn’t show up for like a week and we had to leave. So we’ll find another elderly cause when we return.
